TRIBUTE TO OUR LATE FORMER NUGS PRESIDENT HAYFORD PATTERSON AKROFI. 24/06/2014

FORMER PRESIDENT HAYFORD PATTERSON AKROFI
Ghana and the Student front consider ourselves blessed because from 1974 to 1976 we had our dearest uncle Akrofi leading the struggle to better the lots of Ghanaian Students, Ghanaians, and Africa as a whole. Today, we mourn the unfortunate demise of such an industrious son of mother Ghana under such ill-fated circumstances. Your leadership provided the student front with a vision and a sense of direction, you did not only stand against government to get the best for students but you stood your grounds against countries, kings, and rulers of the age to provide the best of leadership for Ghanaian Students.

As an architect, you understood the architecture of the human society and crafted policies that we the students of Ghana can never forget. Some of which have been discussed below;

FIGHT AGAINST IMPERIALISM

On 13th April, 1975 You Led The Students Of Ghana In A Press Conference To Prevent The Visit Of The Then US Secretary Of State Henry Kissinger Who Was Tagged as An ‘’OPPOSITION TO FORCES OF PROGRESS’’ IN SOUTHERN AFRICA. When he (Kissinger) was visiting Ghana and Africa ‘TO ASSURE THE 'GOOD BOYS' REMAIN LOYAL TO AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY IN AFRICA...’ this showed your strength to stand up even against the so-called super powers of the west to stand against imperialist powers. In your own words, you called this act ‘A NATIONAL DISGRACE FOR GHANA TO BE INCLUDED ON LIST OF SUCH NATURE’ we believe that many people of our time will not be strong and willing to do this but you did as a proud son of Ghana and Africa.

PROTECTION OF GHANAIAN STUDENTS

Again in March 17, 1976 you used force and tact to put it straight to the United State Information Service (USIS) to seek prior approval from NUGS for any programs directed toward students in Ghana. To read your words that say that ‘we of the Students movement of Ghana reserve the right to advise ourselves of appropriate steps to take to right any wrongs done, and that we take no responsibility of any mishaps that shall befall such organisations, their property or their personnel’. Is how you give meaning to our slogan ‘Aluta continua’ even though in achieving our aim, we had to come against the Ghana Association of Writers, you did not hesitate to deplore the respected Students of Ghana at Legon to obstruct that unwarranted event.

STRUGGLE AGAINST NEO - COLONIALISM

From January 6th to 9th 1976 your able leadership organised a Student Seminar on Neo-Colonialist penetrations of African Universities and other institutions of higher learning, which resulted in wide press coverage of statements of conferees who generally voiced support For MPLA and Criticism of Numerous Western, Particularly U.S. Institutions. Great Britain, France and West Germany who were also singled out in these statements as neo-colonialist powers. You could predict the implications of neo colonialism on our continent and fought against oppressors rule with all your heart and all your might.

THE STRUGGLE FOR THE CONTINENT

your leadership saw the need to contribute to the issues that affected Angola, Nigeria, and other African brothers as well as inaugurating NUGS in West Germany and in Britain showing your ardent desire to ensure that the student front contribute immensely to the rescue of the international community against the so-called powers that be.

39 years after your exceptional leadership of our dear Union, we still remember you as a gallant and a proud son of the Union; unfortunately, you met your untimely death when the enemies of progress visited your house and Ghanaian students with an unfriendly fire that took from us a hero, a father, husband and our mentor.

You may have left us painfully, but the leadership you offered us will forever duel in our hearts. We are exceptionally honoured to have had you as our President and we bless the good Lord for the years we had with you.

Uncle Akrofi, on this painful day of your departure, we say that may the Good Lord keep you and be the shield and provider for the family you left behind. May He be their counsellor and console we who mourn and the provider to your many dependants.

Uncle Akrofi,
Damirifa due,
Nyame Nfa Wo Nsie.

NPP distributes 4,000 free school uniforms

NPP distributes 4,000 free school uniforms

Date: 24-06-2014 Time: 07:06:50:am

The opposition New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region has began the distribution of 4,000 sets of uniforms to school children free of charge in fulfilment of the party's free uniform policy for school children in deprived areas.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, who led the distribution team at market places and some primary schools in the the Ejura-Sekyedumasi Municipality last Monday, said the party also gave out 5,000 pens in addition to the school uniforms.

The figures could not be independently verified.

For Chairman Wontumi, said "this move is to ensure that poverty does not prevent any child from accessing at least basic education in the country," .

Education took center stage in the 2012 elections, with the NPP promising Ghanaians free education for Senior High Schools. Ghana is experiencing an era of freebies in education. The NPP's President Kufuor began the School Feeding Programme in 2005 and free transportation for students using the Metro Mass Transit. The NDC has matched this with the free distribution of one million school uniforms to basic school pupils under the late President Mills in 2009.

With 18 months in the John Mahama's four-year term, the NPP is accusing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to fulfill the promise made to the electorate during the 2012 electioneering campaign.

Despite being in opposition, Chairman Wontumi indicated that the NPP would continue with the social intervention project into 2016 and beyond; by which time he was hopeful that the party might have recaptured power to execute more of such programmes for the poor.

According to him, academic performance of some pupils had been affected by their parents' inability to acquire school uniforms and pens for them, adding that the social intervention programme would lead to the distribution of three million sets of uniforms for school children.

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the area, Mohammed Salifu and NPP Programmes Manager of Free School Uniforms, Andy Owusu.

PRESS STATEMENT NUGS IN SOLIDARITY WITH GNUPS

The National Union of Ghana Students wishes to state explicitly our utmost solidarity with our dear Polytechnic Students and GNUPS on what we both agree to call ''the conscious marginalization and demeaning of Polytechnic Education and the shameful situation of government’s inability to create and maintain the systems we need to run our education without pointless interruptions''.

We at NUGS believe that the challenges of GNUPS are the challenges of education in Ghana and as our elders say ‘’ if you find a monster intimidating someone, you do not say leave him or her but you say leave us.’’

We do know that the ears of the government of Ghana (GOG) should be on it’s people but unfortunately, the leadership of the GOG seem to care less about education in the country. The onus lies on government to prove us wrong.

We, the students of Ghana will want to remind His ‘’Excellency’’ President John Dramani Mahama and his leadership that we have not forgotten the mantra of ‘quality education’ and yet what we in the ocean of academia are envisaging is a deliberate attempt of Government to run-down the wheels of academic excellence in Ghana.

As brothers in the struggle for Education as a right for all Ghanaians and not a privilege for a selected few, we also wish to implore His Excellencies former President Kuffour and J.J. Rawlings, the National Chief Imam, the Christian Council, the Speaker of Parliament, the National Peace Council, and other influential bodies on whom our brothers and sisters from GNUPS have called to do all they can within their power to help put some smiles on the face of Polytechnic Students in Ghana so that we can all help to build our Mother Ghana.

God Bless Ghana

God bless GNUPS

God Bless NUGS

And God Bless the Good Students of Ghana.

Aluta Continua Victoria Acerta!

NUGS NEWS IN BRIEF !!!

The International Relations Secretariat is pleased to announce that, the Ghana Mission in Benin has finally agreed to transport Ghanaian students of French from Benin at the full cost of the Mission.

This follows an earlier decision by the Mission to shelve that cost. Transportation to and from Benin is not borne by the Mission but the persistent and consistent plea from some students in Benin and the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has touched the soft spot of the Mission to rescind their earlier decision. This news was broken to the leaders of the three schools which have their students of French there. Namely, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana (UG) and Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) when they went to the Embassy on Monday, 16th June, 2014 for the final decision.

On behalf of all students in Benin and Ghana, we wish to thank the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Mission in Benin and all stakeholders who through their efforts have chalked this successful feat for our dear brothers and sisters in Benin.

They are scheduled to get to Ghana on the 28th June, 2014.

'If It can be done, It has to be done well'

THE STORY OF 4 WIVES

Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives.

He loved the 4th wife the most and adored her with rich
robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave
her nothing but the best.

He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always
showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared
that  one day she would leave him for another.

He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidant and was
always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the
King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would
help him get through the difficult times.

The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made
great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom.
However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved
him deeply, he hardly took notice of her!

One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short.
He thought of his luxurious life and wondered,   I now have
four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone."

Thus, he asked the 4th wife , "I loved you the most,
endowed
you with the finest clothing and showered great care over
you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me
company?"

"No way!", replied the 4th wife, and she walked away
.             without another word.
Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart.

The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I loved you all my
life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me
company?"

"No!", replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good!
When you die, I'm going to remarry!"
His heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always
turned to you for help and you've always been there for me.

When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!", replied the
2nd wife.  "At the very most,I can only walk with you to
your grave."

Her answer struck him like a bolt of lightning, and the
King
was devastated.  Then a voice called out: "I'll go with you.
I'll follow you  no matter where you go."

The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was
very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect.

Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have taken much
better care of you when I had the chance!"

In truth, we all have the 4 wives in our lives:

Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and
effort
we lavish in making it look good, it will leave us when we
die.

Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we
die,  it will all go to others.

Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much
they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay  by
us is up to the grave.

And our 1st wife is our Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of
wealth, power   pleasures of the world.

However, our Soul is the only thing that will follow us
where ever we go.Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now,
for it is the only part of us that will follow   to the
throne  of God and continue with us throughout Eternity.

Thought for the day: Remember, when the world pushes you to
your knees, you're in the perfect position to pray.

Pass this on to someone you care about - I just did.

MY DAD'S FATHERS DAY MESSAGE TO ME ON THE 15th of JUNE, 2014

This is what my dad had to say, 'You are about to begin the journey of life as you step out of the university into the world, let this piece guide you through the life ahead'. Your

independence from this nuclear family started the very day you gained admission into the Akwamuman Senior High school, I thought to myself am gradually losing the boy in the man I brought up, that one whom in some years

past, will never set foot in school until he has taken the residues of my breakfast and will never go to bed until he has seen me return

from work. At this moment memories of my late grandma came to mind as I recounted one particular night she had to carry me at her back for a stroll in order to get me some fruits because I refused to take supper till I saw my dad l return from his normal survey-bush routine. Well I guess I have no other option than to begin to accept this reality glaring at me in the face. Now, listen carefully.

Note that you can never be accepted by everyone anywhere you go so ?DON?T ATTEMPT TO PLEASE EVERYBODY BECAUSE YOU WILL END UP PLEASING NONE?, instead strive to please no other than yourself. Guard your life with values that hold your integrity in high esteem and be prepared to defend and protect these values come what may. Let the people your meet in life know ?What you stand for?, the truth is you will make temporal enemies for yourself, never give up, maintain the consistency and I tell you these same enemies will become friends for life; they will place a very high premium on the value of the friendship with you.

Have respect but fear not any man but the Almighty God because He is the only one who has the power to make and unmake you. Be bold and courageous at all times to condemn all manner of wrong doings and defend your convictions even at the gun point. Strive to at all times speak nothing but the TRUTH,

because it will NEVER CHANGE and is easier to always make REFERENCE to, without having to subject your mind to RIGOROUS playbacks to retrieve earlier CLAIMS made as in the case of TELLING LIES, it is difficult decision to make. Be bold and prepared to FACE or PAY the PRICE for the TRUTH, this is INTEGRITY.

You need to start planning your future on your own, remember I was only used by my Maker as a conduit for you to come to this world,

therefore note that your success in life cannot be dependent on me. 'I can never guarantee you success', he added. He likened the story of LIFE to that of planting a seed. If you regularly water, prune, apply the right dosage of fertilizer, implement the necessary pest, weeds or insect control methods etc, your plant will be able to withstand the challenges that come its way and in the end grow into plants producing significant yields for your consumption. Note, ?LIFE IS AS YOU LIVE IT?

Most important of all these is the GOD factor, always remember that your temporal stay on this earth is for a purpose, don?t you ever

forget the Almighty Father in all you do, seek Him day and night, morning and evening, because He only knows the PURPOSE for your life.
ALWAYS REMEMBER 'YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT GOD'.

12 Ethical Principles for Business Executives

Let’s start with a basic definition: ethical principles are universal standards of right and wrong prescribing the kind of behavior an ethical company or person should and should not engage in. These principles provide a guide to making decisions but they also establish the criteria by which your decisions will be judged by others.

In business, how people judge your character is critical to sustainable success because it is the basis of trust and credibility. Both of these essential assets can be destroyed by actions which are, or are perceived to be unethical. Thus, successful executives must be concerned with both their character and their reputation.

Abraham Lincoln described character as the tree and reputation as the shadow. Your character is what you really are; your reputation is what people think of you. Thus, your reputation is purely a function of perceptions (i.e., do people think your intentions and actions are honorable and ethical) .while your character is determined and defined by your actions (i.e., whether your actions are honorable and ethical according to the 12 ethical principles:

1. HONESTY. Be honest in all communications and actions. Ethical executives are, above all, worthy of trust and honesty is the cornerstone of trust. They are not only truthful, they are candid and forthright. Ethical executives do not deliberately mislead or deceive others by misrepresentations, overstatements, partial truths, selective omissions, or any other means and when trust requires it they supply relevant information and correct misapprehensions of fact.

2. INTEGRITY. Maintain personal integrity. Ethical executives earn the trust of others through personal integrity. Integrity refers to a wholeness of character demonstrated by consistency between thoughts, words and actions. Maintaining integrity often requires moral courage, the inner strength to do the right thing even when it may cost more than they want to pay. The live by ethical principles despite great pressure to do otherwise. Ethical executives are principled, honorable, upright and scrupulous. They fight for their beliefs and do not sacrifice principle for expediency.
3. PROMISE-KEEPING. Keep promises and fulfill commitments. Ethical executives can be trusted because they make every reasonable effort to fulfill the letter and spirit of their promises and commitments. They do not interpret agreements in an unreasonably technical or legalistic manner inorder to rationalize non-compliance or create justifications for escaping their commitments.

4. LOYALTY. Be loyal within the framework of other ethical principles. Ethical executives justify trust by being loyal to their organization and the people they work with. Ethical executives place a high value on protecting and advancing the lawful and legitimate interests of their companies and their colleagues. They do not, however, put their loyalty above other ethical principles or use loyalty to others as an excuse for unprincipled conduct. Ethical executives demonstrate loyalty by safeguarding their ability to make independent professional judgments. They avoid conflicts of interest and they do not use or disclose information learned in confidence for personal advantage. If they decide to accept other employment, ethical executives provide reasonable notice, respect the proprietary information of their former employer, and refuse to engage in any activities that take undue advantage of their previous positions.

5. FAIRNESS. Strive to be fair and just in all dealings. Ethical executives are fundamentally committed to fairness. They do not exercise power arbitrarily nor do they use overreaching or indecent means to gain or maintain any advantage nor take undue advantage of another’s mistakes or difficulties. Ethical executives manifest a commitment to justice, the equal treatment of individuals, tolerance for and acceptance of diversity. They are open-minded; willing to admit they are wrong and, where appropriate, they change their positions and beliefs.

6. CARING. Demonstrate compassion and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Ethical executives are caring, compassionate, benevolent and kind. They understand the concept of stakeholders (those who have a stake in a decision because they are affected by it) and they always consider the business, financial and emotional consequences of their actions on all stakeholders. A third-year student of the Takoradi Polytechnic is facing the full rigours of the law for allegedly using the name of former First Lady Konadu Rawlings to perpetuate fraud.

The suspect, Collins Kofitse, 26, and others now at large are said to have created a Facebook account under the name “Konadu Rawlings” to commit the crime.

Addressing the press in Accra last Monday, Director- General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commissioner of Police’ (COP) Prosper Cwame Agblor. stated that he suspect used an organization called Empowerment of Masses (OFEM), which they claimed Konadu Rawlings was a co-founder.

He said they also falsely .represented on this Face- book page that OFEM was providing foreign university scholarships to students in UK, Dubai, Germany and Australia, and they demanded and obtained various forms of money from interested applicants.

COP Agblor further said that preliminary investigation revealed that their physical address was in Kara, Republic of Togo and some of their landlines were also registered in Togo.

He said a Ghanaian applicant resident in the United Arab Emirates became suspicious when he saw the advertisement and he therefore lured Kofitse to Accra, where he was arrested.

Why He Broke Up With You

Hi girls, this is a second letter from the guys. They told you earlier on why they fell in love with you. Today, they want to share with you why they broke up with you.

‘I told you I loved you, but for some reasons I want to break up with you. Read for yourself the details. Remember not to blame yourself too much.’

Ogochukwu: I had no solid reason for breaking up with my girlfriend. My friends didn’t like her much, which discouraged me. So I was just waiting for her to slip and make a mistake, so I could use that as the basis to walk away. Well in no time, she gave me a cause to end the relationship. She started demanding too much sex. When I couldn’t meet her needs, I thought she might cheat on me. Of course, her actions validated my fears. I broke up with her when she didn’t turn up for my graduation. I don’t think I was a hundred percent fair to her, but such is my story.

Ekow: She became boring. Never willing to try new stuff. She was just there. I believe a woman should be everything to a man: a friend, a prostitute, a cook, a cousin, et al. I didn’t see that in the woman I was dating. Intellectual conversations with her became difficult. The last option I had was to let go of her. All the same, I wouldn’t shift all the blame unto her. My job took a bunch of my time. What would one expect in such an instance? Guess the result is what I am recounting to you now.

Kwaku: Men have expectations just as women do. There are certain attributes you want to see to be able to invest in a woman. For me, these were absent in my girlfriend. If my prospects aren’t met, should I continue? I would emphatically say NO. She has this flaky behaviour. She is just not enough. I am breaking up with her this very night.

Sipho: I didn’t trust her. She was always coming up with excuses when we had to meet. She was also very demanding when it came to money. For me she wasn’t worthy of my trust.

Amani: She carried bitterness, pain and depression from her past relationship and literally dumped them on me. She became very impatient with me. Apparently, she lost her mum, which caused her more sorrow and depression. I was prepared to stand by her, but her impatient attitude didn’t allow me to stick with her.

Mawuli: There was little communication. There was no seriousness in the relationship. The love I had for her I guess wasn’t deep. I think on the whole, she wasn’t the one I had my eyes on. I hooked up with her just because I craved to fill a void in my life.

Akwasi: Her quick temperedness—that was what caused the break up. She would say things even before hearing the truth. Acting on the spur of the moment was her usual behaviour. I just couldn’t continue with such a woman. Remember, you can never take back what you’ve said. Although she regretted things she said in the heat of the moment, she had already caused the damage and hurt. Unnecessary mistrust, lack of resourcefulness and low creativity: all these are contributing factors. I don’t like women who are dull, that is those who nod in agreement to anything I say or do. Such people don’t add anything to my life.

Ibrahim: I broke up with her because she cheated on me. Not just that, she was also money conscious and overly demanding. Since I couldn’t meet all her demands, I felt I wasn’t making her happy. Why stay in the relationship when I can’t satisfy her?

Rahman: Excuse my language, but to me she was more than a witch. Always giving me pressure to do things for her at ungodly hours (e.g. calling me at midnight to write proposals and application letters for her). She was very demanding. I wanted a woman who would support me, not a baby to nurture. She didn’t know what she wanted. Even when she had a problem, she could hardly state what it was. To me she was her own problem. I think her immaturity was too much.

With these survey results in mind, I found some reasons common to most men for a break up with a woman:

1. Overly demanding especially when it comes to money

2. Comparisons with her ex

3. Emotionally dependent

4. Unnecessary mistrust

So there it is. Ladies, guess you’ve read for yourselves some of the serious and at times fickle reasons why your men decided to break it off.

POTAG strike: Cape Coast Poly closed down

POTAG strike: Cape Coast Poly closed down

Cape Coast PolytechnicCape Coast Polytechnic
The Cape Coast Polytechnic has been shut down. This is in compliance with the Polytechnic Act which says that a school will be closed down after 21 days of continuous strike.

The Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana (POTAG) embarked on a nationwide strike to protest the scrapping of their unpaid book and research allowance.

It has been four weeks since the Cape Coast branch of POTAG begun their strike.

According to the acting Registrar for Cape Coast Polytechnic, Emmanuel Agborvi told Citi News, the decision for the shutdown was taken after an emergency board meeting of the school on Friday.

The final year students of the school have been told to go home and return at the beginning of the next academic year to write their final exams while continuing students have been directed to proceed on attachment.

A visit to the school by Citi News’ Central Regional correspondent, Kwamena Bamfo Adjei revealed that students were anxiously awaiting the result of the court action which was initiated by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The Commission dragged POTAG to court for failing to call off their strike which they described as illegal.

Some of the students who are still on campus revealed they were indeed very worried and unhappy about the latest development and are hoping that the issues will be resolved soon so they can resume their studies.

Ghanaian student wins best research presentation prize at University of Portsmouth

Ishmael Ackah, a former student of the University of

Professional Studies, Accra has won the best

presentation prize at the 10th PBS Postgraduate

Research Conference at the University of

Portsmouth, UK.

Ishmael who holds Msc in Energy Economics and

Policy from the University of Surrey, UK is a PhD

candidate at the University of Portsmouth,

specialising in Energy Economics and Policy. He

modelled natural gas demand in selected oil

producing African countries. According to him,

natural gas is a bridge fuel due to its availability

and attractive environmental qualities. As a result

of these, natural gas demand has attracted a lot of

attention in terms of studies and exploration.

In 2011, Africa consumed 525, 434 tons of oil

equivalent (ktoe) of energy of which 28,375 ktoe

was natural gas representing 5.4% according to

data from the International Energy Agency. Out of

this percentage, Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria

consumed 43.2%.

This study applies the structural time series model

(STSM) to the natural gas demand in Algeria, Egypt

and Nigeria to estimate the effect of both economic

and non-economic factors on natural gas demand.

The advantage of the STSM is that, it is capable of

capturing non-observable factors that influence the

demand for natural gas. His study reports a price

and income elasticity of -1.16 and 0.95 for Algeria,

-0.34 and 0.61 for Egypt and -0.39 and 1.5 for

Nigeria.

The underlying energy demand trend suggests that

these countries have been energy-using in terms of

natural gas consumption. This implies that they are

not energy efficient. He recommends that policy

makers should consider energy efficiency education

and encourage the use of energy saving

appliances.

Ishmael will be presenting his latest findings on

energy demand modelling on Ghana and other oil

producing African countries at the 37th IAEE

Conference in New York from 14th to 18th June,

2014.

Central University students escape death after hostel collapse

Central University students escape death after hostel collapse
Eight students of the Central University Collage, escaped death last Friday, when the hostel they were occupying collapsed. None of the students was hurt as they were all not in the building during the incident.

The two-storey uncompleted structure located at Methodist Junction at New Dawhenya in the Ningo-Prampram District suddenly gave way as floors and pillars fell on each other like falling pack of cards on Friday afternoon.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained.

Parts of the main house and some stores located on the compound were also broken with iron rods that were holding the pillars of the collapsed building.

A popular eatery 'Ajeley Restaurant' which is also located in the structure was also flattened.

The GNA reported that personnel from Ghana National Fire Service, National Disaster Management Organisation officials and police personnel were present at the scene.

Traumatised students from an adjacent hostel and some residents had also gathered at the scene of the incident on Friday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul Mensah Bampoh, District Police Commander, said his outfit received information about the collapsed building at about 1430 hours.

He said information gathered on the incident was very sketchy but confirmed that there were no casualties.

Alhaji Shardrack Nartey, District Chief Executive, who visited the scene, consoled the owner, Mr John Arthur, who was visibly traumatised as he kept weeping.

Alhaji Nartey said the technical officers of the Assembly would investigate the incident to find out the cause.

He also called on developers to adhere to all building regulations to prevent recurrence of such incidence.

Some of the affected students told the GNA that all their belongings which include learning materials, clothing, furniture and cooking utensils were buried under the rubble.

In March this year, a seven-storey uncompleted hotel building at Nii Boi Town in Accra collapsed claiming one life.
