Curiosity Bank has read a ridiculous piece purporting to be from the SRC President of KNUST Mr. Duke Aaron Sasu. Since there hasn't been any disclaimer from him or his office, as a friend, a coursemate and a student from KNUST I am tempted to draw my fellow students and HIS attention on issue of constitutionality which Duke in his wisdom thinks is wrong for NEC of USAG to impeach the current executives.
Now let us look into the merits of his release....
The following articles in the USAG constitution provides the CODE of CONDUCT for NEO, NEC, Senate, Committees et al
58 (1) All officers and persons carrying on duties approved by this constitution or any of the organs of USAG shall not put himself in a position where his personal interests conflicts or is likely to conflict with the performance of the functions of his office. (2) Before entering into the duties of his office, a person appointed or elected to an office shall take and subscribe the oath of secrecy and any other oath appropriate to his office.
"(3) A person appointed or elected to an office shall conduct his affairs in a manner that does not bring disrepute to this office or the University Students’ Association of Ghana."
(4) The private affairs of an officer of USAG in so far as it does not affect his competence, credibility or the performance of his functions shall not be considered against him in any deliberations
(5) A person appointed or elected to an office shall be honest in his dealings, maintain a high sense of integrity and showcase a great amount of competence.
I think my SRC president should juxtapose what transpired at the 13th USAG congress and see if it is not meritoruos to impeach the executives?
Further he made mention of the procedure followed in the impeachment .....
Any one who voilates any of the provisions qualifies to be impeached or removed from Office
Article 64.
(2) For the purposes of impeachment Senate shall be validly constitute by not less than two thirds of Senate members.
(3) Senate shall hear the facts of the allegations given due recognition to the rules of natural justice. (4) An officer ceases to hold office upon the approval of two thirds majority of Senators present and voting at the sitting.
(5) NEC shall appoint an individual to act in such a capacity until a substantive officer is elected by Senate.
Well clauses 2,3,5 are of prime interest to me.
The cast out excutives were given ample time by senate to respond to their demands ofwhich USAG IIRS decided to honor. After hearing him out SENATE didnot appreciate what he said.
The president herself came and messed issues up.
Out of 20 Institutions present at the congress 17 SRC presidents or their representatives signed to the impeachment letter ofwhich KNUST was part.
I don't know what was chasing my SRC president to hastly accept the IEC membership and swear to the oath of this constitution.
After waking from his slumber he turns round to tell stories about democracy and constitutionality.
I am wondering the constitution he was reading.
If he was refering to the USAG constitution then he must go and 'RESIT' the constitution and come again.
HE WHO SEEKS EQUITY MUST COME WITH CLEAN HANDS.
