OFFICIAL STATEMENT, OCCUPYUDS DEMONSTRATION
ReplyDeleteThe OCCUPYUDS twitter demonstration is the first of a series of demonstrations aimed at protecting students' interest. Spearheaded by a group of concerned developers, by this demonstration we are requesting;
1. A reduction in the Academic Facility User Fees (AFUF) which is higher than that of other public universities in the country.
2. Removal of the sports and hostel development levy
3. An explanation to the faculty/department fees which is paid by selected departments/faculties
4. An explanation to the wide gap between the fees of the various year groups
As it stands now, the SRC is hiding under the cloak of the John Smith book charges which is to be deducted from this year's fees to deceive students that they negotiated for the moderate fees they promised.
The major aim of the demonstration is to
1. Push the SRC and school management to renegotiate our fees
2. Draw the attention of the Minister of Education to our plight
3. Seek the support of the national NUGS
4. Expose the matter to the media
We are entreating developers to join the campaign against exorbitant fees because as Martin Luther rightly said, "our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter"
The date for the demonstation is Friday, 15th August 2014.
Follow the handle (@occupy_uds), add yoir voice, tweet your fees. We won't stop till we occupy.
LONG LIVE UDS!! LONG LIVE GHANA
