According to them, the due process for calling such an action was followed and that they cannot and will not sit down for their future and that of the unborn generation to be Jeopardized by the actions of the ruling government.
Below is a full Press statement issued by the SRC Presidents:

PRESS RELEASE BY SRC PRESIDENTS ENDORSING NUGS AND GNUPS DEMONSTRATION DATE: JULY 25, 2014

On the 1st of July 2014, representatives of student drawn evenly from all member institution of NUGS met at the University of Cape Coast to deliberate on issues bordering Ghanaian students at the last Central Committee meeting (CC), during the meeting series of concerns were raised with respect to issues affecting students such as POTAG strike, the ailing state of GETFUND, the dying school feeding program, Eminent closure of SHSs? due to government failure to pay subsidies, lack of basic teaching materials at the basic schools, allowances owed our brothers and sisters studying abroad on government scholarship, school fees hike, removal of teacher trainee allowances etc.

These legitimate concerns were tabled as motion of which members of CC agreed to embark on a demonstration, it must also be stated that series of letters had been  written to invite government for dialogue but  to no avail.

Among was a petition sent to the speaker of parliament and copied the ministry of finance, the ministry of education, the National Youth Authority and other relevant organizations and it must be stated that these letters were written before the press conference on 22nd May 2014 by NUGS, so we found it interesting to hear group of persons talking about dialogue when this government has simply decided not to listen to anybody.

We will not sit and fold our arms and watch our future and that of the generation yet unborn be destroyed by our current leaders, we have to rise up and fight for our right.

Thank You
