Blame gov’t for decline in education in V/R – MP

The Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Bedzrah says government should be blamed for the declining level of education in the Volta Region.

According to him government’s inability to release the statutory funds to the Municipal Assemblies is hampering academic work in schools because they are unable to purchase items needed for effective teaching and learning.

public schoolsHe however noted that District Assemblies must also contribute their quota to arrest the problem immediately.

He said, “government is supposed to be blamed. They are not releasing the funds on time but the District Assembly is supposed to support the schools. Can you imagine that the MCE of Wa says he’s not aware that they don’t have chalks in the schools? What do we expect the teachers to do if the MCE is unaware of these things?”

He further asked that all parents and school management boards should take the matter seriously in order to improve situations in the schools there.

“So I want to appeal to the various management in various schools to take their wards work seriously. Teachers are not taking their jobs seriously. They leave classrooms on Thursday and return on Tuesday to upgrade themselves in school.” He said.
