SUSTAINABLE FUNDING OF TERTIARY EDUCATION IN GHANA.

I was the student representative at an EXPERT GROUP MEETING organized by the NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION (NCTE) to discuss SUSTAINABLE FUNDING OF TERTIARY EDUCATION IN GHANA.

Prof I. ADDAE-MENSAH and Prof J. ANAMUAH MENSAH presented a very comprehensive report on the topic. The various stakeholders made very significant contributions to the document and I was excited that the EXPERTS (EDUCATIONISTS)  were  engaging in activities to arrest the challenges in our educational system.

In the Coming days, I will be engaging various student groups on the matter and we will eventually write a report on our engagement with students on the topic.
I have decided to VOLUNTARILY ENGAGE colleague students on this issue because I am one of the many students who are in school because of the benevolence of other people.

As SRC president, I met many students who are grappling with survival and I am particularly touched by the stories of the many students who appear before the INTERVIEW PANEL to be considered for Financial Aid. In some instances, students virtually cry before the panel as they narrate their Stories of how they are coping financially in school.

The University of Ghana SRC under the leadership of Edmond Kombat (My predecessor) initiated a SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME  to support students financially and I believe if other schools, religious groups, individuals and the private sector institute such Reliable Scholarship schemes we will lessen the burden on government because it is becoming increasingly clear that government is sacrificing Quality for Affordability, and fees keep increasing astronomically.

The debate for funding Tertiary Education is on. What do you think??
Should the Government continue to absorb the greater portion of the  huge cost in the face of the abnormal increment in student population??
To what extent must  the individual be responsible for his or her education??
How effectively can we make the private sector support the funding of teaching and learning?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ABOVE TOPIC? lets get talking.
