NUGS MOURNS WITH CUC

NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS) learnt with great distress the tragic accident involving some SRC Executives and students of Central University College (CUC)  that occurred on Friday 28th March, 2014.
Our hearts and condolence go to the family of the student who lost his life. We also share in the pain of the Students, SRC and Management of CUC. There is a general mood of sadness across the campuses in Ghana about this unfortunate incident.

We will like to use this opportunity to call on all from the primary to tertiary to join us pray for speedy healing for our mates who were involved in the accident.

It is worrying to note that there had been a lot of accidents involving students just this year.
It is our prayer that the good Lord protect us us all against any such situation in future.
To the families of the victims and the entire student body and staff of Central University College "mon hy3 din" God gives and he takes back at the appointed time.
We plead with every Ghanaian to be very concious and careful on the road especially when you are carrying students in your vehicles.
We also entreat all students to be mindful of the bad nature of some of our roads in Ghana and drive cautiously. Your life is of value to us.
NUGS is making plans with some insurance companies to provide life insurance policies for students so that some of these bills can be taken care of.

There's a reason why
breaking up from a sexual
relationship is much more
emotionally painful and much
harder to forget than one
that didn't involve sex. There
are several neurochemical
processes that occur during
sex, which are the “glue” to
human bonding.

Sex is a powerful brain
stimulant. When someone is
involved sexually, it makes
him or her want to repeat
that act. Their brain produces
lots of dopamine—a powerful
chemical, which is compared
to heroin on the brain.
Dopamine is your internal
pleasure/reward system.

When dopamine is involved, it
changes how we remember.
The other part is oxytocin,
which is designed to mainly
help us forget what is painful.
Oxytocin is a hormone
produced primarily in
women's bodies. When a
woman has a child and she is
breastfeeding, she produces
lots of oxytocin, which bonds
her to her child. For this
reason, mothers will die for
their child, because they've
become emotionally bonded
due to the oxytocin that is
released when they're skin-to-
skin with their child.

The same phenomenon
occurs when a woman is
intimate with a man. Oxytocin
is released, and this makes
her bond to him emotionally.
Have you wondered
sometimes why a woman will
stay with a man who's
abusing her? We know now
that it's because she bonded
to him emotionally because of
the oxytocin released during
sex.

Men produce vasopressin,
which is also referred to as
the “monogamy hormone,”
and it has the same effect as
oxytocin has on a woman. It
bonds a man to a woman.
These “bonding” agents
narrow our selection to one
person. That is wonderful in a
marriage relationship but
really bad in a dating
relationship because you lose
your objectivity when you're
searching for your potential
lifemate.

Impaired Judgment
According to
neuropsychologist Dr. Tim
Jennings, “When you have
premarital sex, your reward
circuitry is bonded to them
now, and it will be much
deeper and hurtful.
Oftentimes, in breakups of
people who've been sexually
active, they can't tolerate the
sense of emptiness, so they
rush into another
relationship. The neuro
circuits did not have time to
reset, and so they're impaired
in their ability to bond with
the next person, and they
may become sexually active
with them. This is just a
repetitive cycle, and there are
real impairments in bonding
going on.”

Becoming Bonded With Porn
These same neurochemicals
are present when viewing
pornography. A man will
become bonded with
whatever he is engaged in
during the moment these
chemicals are released. When
your relationship is being
carried on with an image, you
become bonded to whatever
you're viewing.

Dr. Doug Weiss, a marriage
counselor, advises men to
have eye contact with their
wives during sex because they
become bonded with that
person. By doing this, he
explains that, over time,
individuals will decrease the
“neural pathway to
pornography and sexually
inappropriate thoughts and
believes and glue to healthy
sexuality to [their] wife. When
your brain thinks sex, it
thinks, 'Where's my wife?' And
that is a great way to fight
this battle.”

Discovering how our minds
were designed to operate by
a magnificent Creator reveals
truth in the way we are to
live.

Cycle of Sexual Sin
For someone viewing porn,
one of the functions of
oxytocin is to separate the
experience and the
excitement from the intensity
of the shame. According to
neuropsychologist Dr. Jes
Montgomery, “Usually by the
time they turn the computer
off, they are already sinking
into a sense of failure and
shame, and the function of
oxytocin is to tell the brain,
'Wait a minute. You don't
want to remember that. You
want to hold on to this
excitement and this amazing
magic that you just
experienced.'”

Knowing how these
neurochemicals interact and
change the brain help us
understand why sex is meant
to be kept within the
boundaries of marriage. You
see the overtones here about
God's design for His pure
temple. This is another
reason why the devil attacks
our sexuality so much—
because in attacking human
sexuality, it actually interferes
with human bonding.

So, for those practicing sex
outside of marriage, they are
creating a bond with their
partner, thus inhibiting their
discernment of whether they
should remain in that
relationship. God wired and
designed our brains for a
specific purpose: to bond
ourselves with the person we
marry.

Jennings, Weiss and
Montgomery are just several
of the many experts featured
in the Conquer  series 6-disk
DVD set who provide amazing
insight that help set men free
from sexual sin, while
providing practical steps to
live in purity.
The course of good exercises are challenged with hurdles and ferocious intimidation but the good Lord who gives and takes and grants rest to the weary has answers to what ever happens to his children at every point in time.
We as SRC of UDS Navrongo Campus were disheartened upon hearing the news on the Fatal Accident involving Central University College SRC Executives and therefore deem it fit to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
To those who sustained various degrees of injuries,Sharing your sorrow and thinking of you We wish you a speedy recovery.

THE ANSWERS WE NEED!!

I am very sad to hear of the unfortunate accident that befell the SRC of Central University College today.
I wish to express my sincerest heartfelt condolence and sympathy to the Families of the victims, the  Management of CUC, the SRC and the entire student body of CUC on behalf the Students of University of Ghana, Accra City Campus.
It is rather unfortunate that our Colleague Student Leaders who were on their way from Mataheko to Prampram for a meeting with their Dean of Students were met with such a tragedy.
It is very sad for such a thing to happen to young leaders and students who are full of dreams of a better tomorrow.
We must all rally behind the family and victims  with prayers at this crucial moment.

At this crucial time even as we will have to sympathy with our colleagues, there are many questions that one may like to ask from the rumour gathered.
1.How true is it that the driver of the said vehicle was a student?
2. If that was true, was he having the right qualification to drive such a car?
3. Is the SRC having a driver? If yes where was he at the time?
Until the above questions are answered to enable us find lasting solutions to such challenge, we can only task the police and the various law enforcement bodies to do a thorough investigation of the matter and give us the right answers.
May the Good Lord Heal the injured and help the departed soul to rest in Perfect Peace.

Prosper Dzitse,
Local NUGS President of UG-ACC.

MINUSES AND PLUSES OF ELECTIONS: PART 1

On assumption of office, I pledged exposing the rots and mafia that was associated with elections on UDS Wa campus.. consequently, I write this piece not to undermine the image and integrity of the EC, any individual or group of persons, but in the name of democracy and perseverance of the constitutional 'social contract' that mandates students to choose their leaders and put in them their individual sovereignty. To this extent, any attempt to twist, turn and manipulate the elections in the favor of one individual against the will of the people should not be condoned. It is with this conviction that I seek to expose some electoral flaws whiles opening the eyes of the world to these possibilities so that there is a free and fair electoral process..

1. First of all, there are supposed king makers (often former students of UDS) who are believed to have experience in rigging elections. These person(s) sometimes take money from aspirants or go into agreements with them in exchange for favors when they win. These people possess the power to manipulate elections and steal the verdict of the people to suit their choice. This is highly possible partly because they might have helped some of the incumbent leaders through such foul means and because such leaders owe their allegiance to them, they USE them to achieve their aim. They influence the selection of the electoral officers and polling agents so that they have people who will bow to their whims and caprices and aid the scheme. Of-course not all of them are evil but surely some are there with an ill motive. Aspirants must therefore advise their polling agents to be very vigilant and not trust any electoral or polling official......

2. There are six polling stations at three venues but the most volatile place is old campus where the diploma and level 400 students vote..
Records show that the level 400 polling station often record the lowest turn out. As a result it has become the most fertile ground to rig election due to the fact that no matter how many ballots are staffed (illegally placed) in the ballot box it will never exceed the total number of registered voters because of the low turn out.. such ballots will be considered valid once they are in the box so the surest thing to do is to avoid them from getting into the box. ASPIRANTS must therefore get observers to help their polling agents to monitor the polls and especially watch-out for persons who will attempt to vote more than once; those who carry foreign materials to put in the box; and those who are not registered there (lower levels) but will attempt to vote. All polling agents and observers must be brave enough to alert the EC, police or confront anyone they suspect to have ill intentions and motives...

WATCH OUT FOR PART TWO..

UCC SRC ELECTIONS IN COURT

It has been wind of an unimpeachable information that Opoku Nti Ernest (Restoration) has dragged the University of Cape Coast to the Cape Coast High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.

The set date for the appearance in court is Tuesday, March, 25, 2014 which the court may enforce an

injunction on the SRC elections. The application is base under Article 33 of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana, Articles 296 and 17, order 67 of the CI47 and the University of Cape Coast Students handbook 2012 revised edition.

The respondents of the case include The Dean of Students, as first respondent, the chairman of the 2014/2015 SRC elections Vetting Committee of the University of Cape Coast as second respondent. The third respondent is the chairman of the 2014/2015 SRC elections electoral commission of the University Cape Coast, and Philip Glover, the group of convener of petitioners of the University of Cape Coast as the fourth respondent. The last respondent or the fifth respondent is the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Cape Coast Regional Office.

It will be recalled that Opoku Nti Ernest (Restoration) was axed from the 2014/2015 SRC elections race which was purported to be as a result of a petition some students brought against him challenging his eligibility to contest the elections. Restoration is therefore challenging his disqualification from the elections and views his

disqualification as a breach of his fundamental human rights which are enshrined in Ghana's constitution.

He is therefore praying the court to intervene to ensure that he is allowed to contest the election because the said allegations that was raised in the petition that was brought against him was untrue and misconstrued.
