An international observance of student activism on this special day it is. The fruit of the struggle against Nazi oppression of students in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (Now know as Czechslovakia). The result of a similar uprising against the Greek military junta of 1973 by the students of Athens Polytechnic.
All students worldwide commemorate this day with great nostalgic reminiscence of the struggle of former students for the attainment of Free and Quality education for all. I stand to salute the Heroes who have helped achieve this feet through thick and thin.
Fast forward to this day, the world has seen tremendous progress in education, both formal and informal. The arc of Development and Civilization has bent towards Education. Greater efforts of investing heavily in Education will yield more results in alleviating poverty and increasing wealth directly or indirectly.
Today, 17th November, 2014, I join hands with the European Students' Union (ESU) and add my voice to their call on student organisations around the world to STAND UP for FREE EDUCATION. This year, as policy makers around the world gather to set a global education framework in Post-2015 Development Agenda, let's take action to assert the common student interest. Let's strengthen our declaration that, "Education is a right". To guarantee the educational, civic and social right of students and citizens, let's demand free education; which means an education that is, at all levels.
