The University of
Education, Winneba has rejected 16979 applicants that applied to study
in the University for the 2014/2015 academic year.
This is according to Prof. Akwasi Asabre-Ameyaw the vice chancellor of the University.
Prof.
Asabre-Ameyaw was speaking at a matriculation program to usher 601
students into various fields of LANGUAGE studies at the college OF
language education, Ajumako campus of the university.
Prof.
Asabre-Ameyaw said for the 2014/2015 academic year, 27241 applicants
applied to various fields of study in the University, but the University
was only able to admit 10292 students representing a meager 37.78% of
the total applications received by the University.
This according to Prof Asabre-Ameyaw is as a result of the over stretched limited resources the University has.
He therefore appealed
to the government and other philanthropist to come to the aid of the University.
Not
withstanding the challenges faced by the school, the VC assured that
the University is making substantial strides in the area of
infrastructure development, reducing the students-teacher ratio,
technology advancement etc.
The learned professor said, the
University will continue to show commitment to the development of human
resources for the country.
he therefore advised the students who
have had access to the University to eschew all forms of social vices
and take their books serious since their continuous stay in the
University will depend on academic performance and strict adherence to
the University rules.
In all 601 students were matriculated into various fields of language studies at the Ajumako campus of the University.
The
students were called by Dr. Charles Owu-Ewie, vice dean of the faculty
of languages education, to be sworn into the school by the registrar.
